#throwback like 1 year ago in Nov 2018, when we first met Christopher Tan (author of best selling Nerdbaker, award-winning writer, cooking instructor and photographer 😆🤠)..
He came across our Kueh business on Facebook and shared that he was working on a heritage food book project which is supported by the National Heritage Board (NHB) where he will feature all traditional Kuehs from Singapore’s different communities – Malay, Chinese, Peranakan, Eurasian — and about the history, tradition and customs of making and serving Kuehs.
He emailed us sharing candidly about himself and what he does, asking if we can have a meet up to chit chat and how he had gone around our little red dot interviewing Kueh makers from all across Singapore, to hear their sharing, opinions, memories, thoughts and advice on the art and craft of making Kueh.
Being ever ready to share and promote our Teochew traditions, culture and food heritage, Chef Müm was of course very excited for this wonderful opportunity to speak to such a renowned local Chef!
Since then, we stayed in touch, occasionally exchanging Kueh InSights and even got to collaborate together with NHB for a public event at the National
Museum of Singapore on the eve of Mother’s’ Day on 11 May 2019! That day, we met many Mother-daughter pairs and many Kueh enthusiasts, and Chef Müm
conducted a demo/partial hands-on workshop on how to make traditional Teochew Png Kueh!
The rest after that till now was history! We were so encouraged and had since started our very own Fully hands-on Traditional Teochew Png Workshop on 24 Aug 2019, and we even topped it up with a complimentary Kueh High Tea, so as to further share with others, the other Teochew Kuehs that are close to our hearts!
The experience thus was far was such a privilege and humbling as we received so many positive responses and great reviews from our #YoonsKuehLovers and Workshop participants! Thank ü for loving üs! ❤️
And most importantly, Chef Müm, my beloved Mümmy is smiling and laughing 3000 times more now! 😜 Thank ü all for journeying with us since and still to come, injecting this new lease of life into her! The best has yet to come! Expectant and full of Hope (Elpis)! 🙌🏼🥰
